AFFF's composition consists of Fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents and preservatives. It produces a vapour – sealing film that spreads rapidly over the fuel surface to provide an immediate control over fire. AFFF is available in two different types : Type 3 % and Type 6 % .
The letters stand for the class of fire the extinguisher can be used against:
Class B Fire: extinguish fires involving flammable liquids, solvents, oil, gasoline, paints, lacquers, and other oil-based products.
Class C Fire: extinguish fires involving flammable gases like LPG and other gases.

ABC Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher is a ”Monoammonium phosphate” based fire extinguisher, used on class A, class B, and class C fires. It uses a specially fluidized and siliconized monoammonium phosphate powder. ABC dry chemical is usually a mix of monoammonium phosphate and ammonium sulfate, the former being the active one. The mix between the two agents is usually 30–70%, 50-50%, or 90-10% depending on standards.
